Focus of the programme

Throughout the programme, you will achieve a broad competence in the field of energy engineering, while you learn to solve energy problems in cooperation with others.

With a Bachelor of Enginering in Sustainable Energy, you can participate in the solution of future technical and societal problems in the field of energy engineering which must also consider and respect the areas of environment, society and economy.

The programme in Sustainable Energy is a result of the University College’s ambition to help support an environmentally responsible society. A society that is based on the best conditions for environmentally friendly energy production, so that Denmark can continue to be centre stage in the international climate debate.

For this purpose, it essential to have trained environmental and energy-conscious engineers who have a new perspective on future energy production.

Energy coupled with economy and environment

Through this education, you will achieve a broad competence in the field of energy engineering. On the one hand, you must study subjects in the fields of thermal, electrical, mechatronics, and control and regulation sciences, and on the other hand, study economics and environmental sciences.

We believe the parallelism in the programme is a very important prerequisite, since you will be able to participate in solving the technological problems that occur in energy engineering both now and in the future. Energy technical problems must be solved with respect for the environment, society and economy, and in cooperation with many different professions that often have different educational and / or cultural backgrounds.

Specialization

One feature of the education is that from the 4th to the 7th semester, you can specialize in:
• Thermal Energy Technology
• Electrical Energy Engineering
• Mechatronic Control Engineering

Programme Content

The programme is a 3½-year engineering diploma with ½-year integrated engineering training in a Danish or foreign company.

Introduction of the first semester

The programme is based on problem-orientated teaching. The Bachelor degree in Sustainable Energy Technology is constructed so that you complete the first part of the education through projects which introduce you to the basic thermal, mechanical and electrical disciplines. These include, for example: heat conduction, fluid flow, thermodynamics, circuit theory, electrical engineering, material science, electrical and thermal machines, hydraulics, statics and strength and vibration analysis.
In addition, you have mathematics (of course), and you must take subjects such as control engineering, laboratory techniques, data collection and practical exercises in the various laboratories.

Project in focus

On the first semester, you will be introduced to problem-orientated projects where you achieve a broad knowledge of the subjects that are central to the rest of the Bachelor of Engineering in Sustainable Energy. Project Work methods are introduced and practiced through the development of various large and small projects.

Focus on energy
After the first semester, you begin with the disciplines embodied in the programme's three specialization tracks. These areas are thermal, electrical and mechatronics. In the third semester, these subject areas are common to all tracks. This ensures that you have a broad understanding of the basic disciplines within energy engineering, so that you get the skills to combine and optimize these in subsequent semesters.

Speicalization in the 4th semester

On the fourth semester, the programme divides itself into three specializations:

  • Thermal Energy Engineering - design, analysis and dimensioning of energy systems such as motors, refrigerators, or pumping systems
  • Electrical Energy - production, transmission, conversion and distribution of energy in electrical machinery and equipment
  • Mechatronics Control Engineering – e.g. analysis and modeling of mechatronics systems or products. Mechatronics refers to a system or product as a symbiosis of both mechanical and electronic design coupled with information technolog

You must first decide which specialization track you wish to pursue after three semesters.

Through the specialization you will be able to go deeper into specific disciplines. Through the basic education you will have created the necessary overview to link different disciplines within energy engineering, which you can then convert to solve current problems in your area of specialization.

In other words, this qualifies you to participate in interdisciplinary teamwork across the entire energy sector.

Engineering Internship

The engineering internship is located on the 5th semester and is an important element of the programme. This allows you to combine your theoretical skills with practical engineering work in a Danish or foreign company.

You find / choose the internship site, but to ensure that the practical work is relevant to the study, the University College must approve the internship site and subject content. Through the engineering internship, you get valuable experience with the practical work of engineers.

The last study year

After the engineering internship, you start your last academic year.
On the 6th semester, the academic qualifications that you have from the courses and the experience that you have gained in the engineering internship is used in your 6th semester project. This project will provide the basis for the later award of the bachelor degree.

Bachelor project

The bachelor project is 20 ECTS. The project must be a corporate work that you seek out from your interest. The bachelor project is realized under the guidance of a contact from the company and a teacher from the University College.

In the bachelor project counts, you must focus on solving an engineering problem. You must review the project document so you have visibility of your field of study and a mastership of the theories and scientific methods that enable you to work as an engineer.

Career opportunities

The Bachelor of Engineering in Sustainable Energy Engineering qualifies you, as an engineer, to engage in a range of business functions where you need your broad scientific view within the engineering and science disciplines. Exactly the professionalism you need to design, manage, regulate and optimize energy plants and equipment in an environmentally safe and economically responsible manner.
