Library
Technical Library of Copenhagen is attached to Copenhagen University
College of Engineering. Students and staff at Copenhagen University
College of Engineering are thus the library’s primary users.
This attachment is reflected in the purchase of licenses for
electronic resources, books and journals focusing on the programmes
offered by Copenhagen University College of Engineering.
The practical arrangement of the library also reflects the special
needs students at the University College require.
The library is open to the public.
Staff
All library business is carried out by library educated staff; this
includes instruction in information searching, use of the Web, choice
of material and registration.
The library offers instruction for all students in information
searching based on course syllabi approved in collaboration with the
University College.
Management
The library management reports directly to the department head and
participates in meeting with the heads of department and the University
College’s management.
The librarybuilding
The library is located in a rotunda. The room is circular, 2 floors
high and is a reminiscence of Gunnar Asplund’s round library in
Stockholm, Sweden.
The building was designed by PLH architects.
At the top the walls are very high, and long, narrow windows are
closely placed all the way around. The ceiling itself is domelike. From
the centre of the dome, a giant chandelier hangs, symbolising
Rutherford and Bohr’s model of the atom. The 3 rings with 60 halogen
lamps symbolise the electrons orbiting around a nucleus. On the outside
the building is made of yellow bricks.
Purpose and guide lines
The library is run with the purpose of servicing Copenhagen University
College of Engineering. The library is covered by and has obligations
according to Act regarding library services of 17 May 2000.
